When you are struggling physically, emotionally, socially, mentally, or spiritually, know that there are some simple strategies that may help you cope with the loss of a loved one or a beloved pet.
Physical - Take good care of your body.
Get enough sleep, but do not oversleep.
Exercise, a simple walk will do and will help clear your mind.
Spend time in nature, listen to the birds, and feel yourself relax.
Eat healthy foods - avoid empty calories.
Drink plenty of water - minimize alcohol.
Play with your pet - if you lost your pet, visit and play with a friend's pet.
Emotional - Be gentle with yourself.
Cry when you feel tears welling up - a good cry releases pent-up emotions and stress.
When anger crops up, find an activity where you can expend this energy.
Be tolerant of perceived deficiencies in yourself.
Surround yourself with calming things, such as, gentle music, pets, and plants.
Give yourself a break from grieving once in a while. Engage in an enjoyable activity.
Mental - Your mind is your friend.
Focus on one thing at a time.
Make a reasonable to-do list and be proud of your accomplishments.
Mentally allow yourself to go at a slower pace.
Give your mind a break and engage in meditation.
Read an uplifting book.
Play some music or your music instrument.
Do deep breathing (tummy breathing), it will immediately relax and clear your mind.
